Julian Nagelsmann has expressed his condolences to Marc-Andre ter Stegen. After the 32-year-old goalkeeper suffered a serious right knee injury that will keep him out for a long time sport.

Ter Stegen suffered a serious right knee injury.

And was stretchered off the pitch late in the first half of Barcelona’s 5-1 La Liga win at Villarreal on Sunday. The 32-year-old goalkeeper underwent surgery to repair the injury and is expected to be out for eight to nine months. 

The injury will not only affect Barcelona but also the German national team, with Nagelsmann pushing for ter Stegen to become the new number one in place of Manuel Neuer, who announced his departure from the German national team. 

Asked whether Ter Stegen’s injury could be a major setback for Germany. Nagelsmann said: ‘The news about Mark’s injury is very sad for us. We will miss him very much both inside and outside the national team.’

‘We wish Mark the best of luck with his surgery and a speedy recovery. and We will be by his side when he returns.’

Nagelsmann now has options to step up to become the new number one in place of ter Stegen. With Stuttgart’s Alexander Nubel, Eintracht Frankfurt’s Kevin Trapp and Hoffenheim’s Oliver Baumann all likely to be considered. With Neuer reportedly tempted to return to Germany.
