Nutritionists say 5 types of food advertised as healthy may not actually be so. Many people have misunderstood this all along.

People are increasingly health conscious and willing to pay for seemingly “healthy” foods . A nutritionist warns that some seemingly healthy foods may not be so if consumed in excess. She identifies 5 types of foods that could be fake health foods.

Nutritionist Cai Yifang posted on her Facebook fan page: “Health awareness is on the rise, whether it’s for weight loss or health reasons. Many people are willing to pay for seemingly ‘healthy’ foods to replace unhealthy ones.”

“Even though some foods are advertised as healthy, they may not actually promote health and may mislead people into consuming more harmful foods,” she said.  “You still need to learn how to assess the nutritional value of foods to make truly healthy and beneficial choices.”

5 Common Artificial Health Foods:

  1. Breakfast cereals:  Most cereals are made from refined grains, and some brands have added sugars, flavorings, chocolate, and other flavorings that aren’t always healthy.

  4. Whole wheat bread:  It may seem healthier than white bread, but it’s actually made with refined white flour and butter. It’s not the best choice for a staple food. It’s best to stick to whole, unprocessed grains instead.
  5. Oat milk:  It is a nutritionally different food from cow’s milk. Cow’s milk is high in protein, while oat milk is mainly sugar. Drinking too much can easily affect your blood sugar levels.
